Accountant: tax & TRA compliance

Mbeya, Tanzania · on siteFull-timeApply by email

Keep our books and our tax position right, month by month: every return filed on time with the Tanzania Revenue Authority, every payment backed by a receipt, and no surprises at audit.

What you will do

  • File the monthly returns on TRA’s IDRAS portal and pay them on time: PAYE, SDL and withholding tax by the 7th, VAT by the 20th.
  • Check every invoice, receipt and payment for the right VAT and withholding treatment, machine hire and services included.
  • Make sure every purchase comes with a valid EFD receipt, and that ours are issued correctly.
  • Prepare the provisional tax estimate, the quarterly instalments and the annual return with our auditors.
  • Reconcile bank, mobile-money and site cash every month, and close the books on time.
  • Keep the tax file ready for TRA audits and assessments, and prepare our responses.
  • Keep the tax clearance current, with NSSF and WCF on the same calendar.

What you bring

  • CPA(T), registered with the NBAA, or a degree in accounting or finance and on the way to CPA(T).
  • Three years or more preparing Tanzanian VAT, PAYE, SDL and withholding tax returns; mining, construction or plant hire is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of the Income Tax Act, the VAT Act and the Tax Administration Act.
  • At home on IDRAS, Excel and an accounting package.
  • Fluent Swahili and good written English.
  • Living in Mbeya or ready to move: the role is on site.

Run our 20 t and 30 t tracked excavators on our own ground and on hire jobs (trenching, stripping, loading and pad work), safely, to line and to depth.

What you will do

  • Run 20 t and 30 t class tracked excavators: trenches and costeans, stripping, loading trucks, pads and access roads.
  • Dig to the geologist’s pegs and the supervisor’s plan: to line, to grade, to depth.
  • Pre-start check, greasing and walk-round every shift; log hours and fuel; report a fault the same day.
  • Work to the site rules: PPE, exclusion zones, banksman signals, and the safety briefing before every shift.
  • Go out with the machine on hire jobs in the region when the work calls for it.

What you bring

  • A valid Class F or G driving licence.
  • A VETA trade test, or another recognised plant-operator certificate.
  • Three years or more on tracked excavators; a mine, quarry or road job is a plus.
  • A clean safety record and a reference from your last site.
  • Ready to live and work on site in Mbeya.
Apply by email To info@najd-aurum.com, subject “Application: Excavator operator (Mbeya)”. Send your CV, a copy of your driving licence and certificates, and a reference from your last site.
What it is like

Small company. Real responsibility.

There is no layer of the company that is insulated from the site. Geologists log their own samples, managers visit the ground, and the people who build our tools use them on site.

That suits some people and not others. If you want a narrow, well-defined role in a large organisation, this is the wrong company. If you want to see the whole of an operation and be accountable for a piece of it, it is a good one.

We hire locally as the default across all three countries, and we train. A candidate who is capable but under-qualified is a better hire than a qualified one who has to be persuaded to visit the site.

Local hiring as the default
Training provided, not assumed
Field rotation for office roles
Safety training before site access, always
Site safety briefing before a shift
